2020 – 2029
Currently, I am still a part-time lecturer at Syracuse University, teaching Knowledge Management modules.
In the meantime, I am reskilling myself in RPA, and instructional design. I also create my own online courses. “How to build business systems and processes” on Udemy and “Getting up again! How to be resilient” is available on the Resilience Guide website. The book with the title, “Getting Up Again and Other Stories We Tell Ourselves About Being Strong” is also available on the Resilience Guide website.
I also started coaching again in 2024. I positioned myself as a guide for those men in their 40s and 50s want to cultivate their resilience, hence the Resilience Guide. So if you are interested, reach out to me for a 30 minute free coaching session.
2010 – 2019
As owner-operator of Quantum Flow Coaching (2006 – 2019), I learned the most. My company grew to three coaches that worked under my brand and we became the primary reference point for the coaching industry in the city of Mangaung, South Africa.
I supervised all management, brand building, and marketing of the organization. Simultaneously, I coached different business owners to scale their businesses through the development and implementation of customized systems. I helped navigate clients through the intricacies of the start-up phase of businesses and the challenges of scaling their businesses.
I coached middle managers with clients in the banking, health service, and retail industry to augment their performance. I successfully mentored different business owners to grow their business profitability by 15%–21%. I helped sales departments move from last to 5th and 3rd best-performing departments by coaching these specific clients’ managers in effective planning, follow-ups, and completion of projects.
For my own company, I supervised an average annual turnover of $ 50,000 per coach. Designed a reliable administrative system for the company to optimize coaches’ administrative tasks. I negotiated and supported the closing of sales for the company while managing a waiting list of three clients scheduled two months in advance.
During that time, I was also one of the lead trainers, mentors, & assessors for the NeuroLeadership Institute in South Africa (2009–2015). Here I trained, managed and completed the Theoretical Foundation of Coaching course. Assessed new coaches after completion of the Intensive Coach training. Mentored new coaches to become competent and confident in their coaching skills.
Another project I was involved in was to be a learning process facilitator for Symphonia Leadership Development (2013–2014). Here I supervised the start-up and growth of the local Community of Practice circles. Facilitated group sessions, coached principals one-on-one, and engaged with stakeholders to fund the programme.
In 2016, we moved to the United States of America, where my wife pursued her PhD.
In the USA, I had several part-time positions. The first was as a part-time consultant at Syracuse University’s Center for International Services (2016–2017), where I assisted the Center for International Services with the planning and execution of orientation sessions for new international students. As well as supporting various programmes like Mix-it-Up (a networking event) and Orange Dialogue for Peace (building relations across cultural boundaries).
In that time, I also partnered with a coaching colleague to create FlowCoach (2015–2018). FlowCoach Practice Management System was a cloud-based system that set coaches free to spend more time doing what they love, coaching, and less time doing administrative tasks. I designed the storyboard and managed the external service provider.
One of the part-time jobs I enjoyed the most was that of being a High Ropes Facilitator at Syracuse University Recreation Services (2018–2020). It involves being outside and facilitating team-building events on high and low-rope courses. We focused on creating team cohesion and developing self-confidence and creative thinking.
The part-time job I enjoyed the least was as a canvasser for the Long Island Citizens Campaign (2018). It involved canvassing neighbourhoods to educate, source funds, and gain support for various environmental issues.
I also enjoyed being a Standardized Patient at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY (2018–2020). It involved acting out standardized medical conditions to assist and assess medical students’ clinical skills. I then gave verbal and written feedback on their observed behavior.
Surprisingly, I found a new joy in working with the University College team of Syracuse University (2019–2020). As a part-time instructor in Knowledge Management, I created and taught four online courses in Knowledge Management: Introduction to Knowledge Management; Professional Issues in Knowledge Management; Knowledge Capture and Codification; and Knowledge Continuity Management.
As a Temporary Student Success Architect at Syracuse University, I co-created the student success program for non-traditional online students and a workflow process and training manual for academic advisors
2000–2009
I started as a pastoral care therapist at the Aurora Alcohol & Drug Rehabilitation Center (2000–2002). Here, I counselled a broad spectrum of patients (judges, artists, farmers, and machine operators) in the restoration and transformation of their lives.
From the rehabilitation center, I became an assistant minister at the Heuwelsig Dutch Reformed Church (2002–2005). Here, I managed and coordinated community engagement in all aspects of the institution. Presenting sermons. Counseled members. Lead the community. Facilitated a cultural change process and mediated conflict resolution situations.
Because I was only an assistant minister, I needed to add to my income by doing side jobs as a part-time lecturer. The first was as a part-time lecturer at the University of the Free State Career Development Program (2002–2007). Here, I equipped students with life and study skills to prepare them for university.
The second lecturing opportunity was as a part-time lecturer at the Central University of Technology Sport Science department (2006–2011). Here I lectured in Sport Psychology and gained a deeper understanding of how optimal performance can be facilitated. I had an above-average pass rate because of my engaging style of teaching.
In 2006, I started my own Coaching and Consulting business.
Specific projects I engaged in as a coach and consultant included being an Assistant Trainer for Results Coaching Systems (2007–2008), where I assisted in training, managing, and completing the Intensive Coach training course.
I also became a BESD Mentor for the German Development Cooperation (2009–2010) and mentored microentrepreneurs through their start-up and growth process in economically disadvantaged areas.
1990–1999
As a student, I engaged in various part-time jobs to help pay for my tuition. Jobs included medical trails; packing shelves in retail shops; deliveries, Transporting agricultural produce; manning customer service desks; selling clothes at Flea markets, clowning at kid’s parties and marketing events
After completing my degrees, I worked in Belgium as a Team Member at the Belgium Evangelize Zending (1998–1999), I assisted in expanding networks and brand awareness to launch and establish two faith communities.
